Hayley surprised us all this spring when she said she wanted to try the tennis team. Having never been much into sports myself, I naively thought that to play on a school team you would have to have already commited years to playing and learning the sport. Hayley had never really played tennis before except for a unit in an elementary school P.E. class! I guess tennis is one of those sports that will allow any level of beginner to play on the junior varsity team. Hayley had several friends who were playing, so with the support of her peers she decided to try it out!
She and her partner, Kayla, held on to the lowly ranks in the JV team. They lost match after match throughout the season. But to the delight of their patient coaches they made steady improvements and the last match of the season was theirs!!! Looks like she will go for it again next year.
