Demigod Camp a.k.a. Happy Birthday Mark!

I mentioned earlier that Mark's reading dramatically improved this year.    The biggest miracle was seeing Mark learn to LOVE reading when he discovered the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series.   For this reason we decided to have a Percy Jackson themed birthday party.   I brilliantly delegated the planning to his creative older sisters.   Emily especially relishes the chance to plan and create and came up with an extremely fun party.

Emily is holding her proudest creation:  Medusa!

Hayley is a paper mache' extraordinaire!   She created a minotaur pinata on very short notice with the paint drying only minutes before the demigods arrived!

The little demigods were welcomed to Camp  Half-blood with the food of the gods: nectar and ambrosia.

They were sent on a quest with clues to find on the way.  Here they had to run through a sprinkler, pick up a balloon and pop it to find their first clue.

The clue led them to MEDUSA, the dreaded gorgon who is so frightening to look at that one glance will turn you to stone! 

Some of the boys got frozen!

The next clue sent them to the nether-regions.  Hades home in the Underworld!

Zeus's heavenly home was next as they dodged lightening bolts to find the clue.

I'm not quite sure how B-B guns fit into Greek mythology, but they sure were fun!

A treacherous obstacle course led them to Dionysus's favorite fruit and the last clue to kill the Minotaur!

The poor Minotaur didn't stand a chance with so many enthusiastic demigods on the attack!

The reward for a job well done.   Drachma cake!   (Or Grasshopper Pie with a golden dollar hidden inside one piece.)

I'd say Mark is a pretty lucky boy to have such creative party planners!
